Destination Worcester and the Worcester Cultural Coalition partner to promote the best of the region!
All new, visitors and residents will now be able to download a free mobile guide to all things fun, exciting, and creative in the Worcester region with the launch of the Woo Pass app. The app, which is available through the App store on an iPhone or an Android, will feature dozens of the region’s attractions, such as museums, theatre, restaurants, shopping, parks, and creative businesses. Users will be able to receive notifications on their phones about events, deals, discounts, and more—all with the touch of their fingertip.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to make visitors and residents aware of all that our fantastic region has to offer through a modern, convenient, and free tool,” said Christina M. Andreoli, President, Worcester Regional Tourism and Visitors Corp. “What makes this app even more appealing is that users will be able to accumulate points for prizes when they swipe their phone at participating venues.”
The Woo Pass app is the next generation of the popular Woo Card program, which was started by the Worcester Cultural Coalition, to motivate residents and visitors to frequent local venues by giving users deals and discounts. More than 70 venues currently participate in the Woo Card program and will transition to the Woo Pass app. Woo Card holders will still be able to swipe their physical card through the end of year at participating venues.
“Thousands of college students, local residents and visitors are already wooing—through the Woo Card Program. What better way to live, learn, work and play in the region than with your phone,” said Erin Williams, Cultural Development Officer, City of Worcester. “The Woo Pass app actively engages people in all the creative businesses and experiences that Worcester and the region have to offer.”
The Woo Pass’ unique quick response function will give users the ability to download all types of details about participating venues and earn points and rewards immediately, simply by swiping. Geo-location technology will connect users and venues directly, and users will be able to bookmark businesses and receive notifications from their favorite places anytime a venue sends out an offer or hosts an event.
A particularly distinctive feature of the mobile app is the Time Capsule, which enables users to immerse themselves in the region’s rich heritage and history. Upon arrival at a historical hot spot or landmark, the app can be used to learn interesting facts about the site and to view historical images and video of the building, street, or landmark.
The Woo Pass app is a collaboration between Destination Worcester, the city’s travel and tourism agency, and the Worcester Cultural Coalition, the unified voice of the Worcester region’s cultural community whose members are the leaders of the region’s seventy four-plus arts and cultural institutions and organizations. The app is funded in part by the Adams Arts program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Fred H. Daniels Foundation, Destination Worcester, and the Worcester Cultural Coalition, as well as participating venues.
